Super Junior is Too Old to Be An Idol Group

At least that’s what the staff of Y-Star’s Goong Geum Ta said when explaining the standards for top celebrity and idol group. The staff of Goong Geum Ta asked people to find an answer to two questions: “What is the standard of top celebrity?” and “What is the standard of idol group?” They found that when asked about top celebrities, people immediately thought of was Lee Byung Hun, Bae Young Jun, Rain, and Song Seung Hun, who ironically were all commercial models for duty-free stores. As a result, Goong Geum Ta determined that the standard to recognition as a top celebrity, one needs to meet the general celebrity standards as well as cast as a lead in multiple dramas, model for major companies, and be popular overseas. The answer for the idol group standards, however, were not as easy. Some of the answers included “over 80% of people who buy songs of the idol group must be teenagers”, “the idol group members have to live together”, and “number of their fans has to be over 100,000″. However, the most reasonable standard involved the idol group members’ average ages. The standard is if the idol group members’ average age exceeds 25, it is difficult to view them as an idol group. If this is truly the case, Super Junior, is not an idol group anymore since the average age of Super Junior is 26.5. For Goong Geum Ta, other ambiguous questions such as the what makes an ordinary fan vs. a sasaeng fan, as well as the difference between plastic surgery and a cosmetic procedure for celebrities. The answers to these questions and more will be revealed on Goong Geum Ta on November 5th at 11:00PM KST. What do you think? Is Super Junior too old to be considered an idol group? What do you think the standard is to be considered an idol group or a top celebrity?
