The Daily Rant: U-KISS deserves to win #1 on a music show

Today’s Daily Rant lies with the absurdity that U-KISS has yet to win #1 on a music show. Since 2008. Say what?! (Disclaimer: I hope I’m not touching any sore points for KISS-MEs out there.) Ever since U-KISS debuted in 2008, their main dream and wish has been to win #1 on music shows, a wish that is shared by many groups when they first debut. No biggie, right? But it has been one long, arduous, tough journey. Even with hit songs like “Man Man Ha Ni”, “Shut Up”, “Without You”, “0330″, and more recently, “Neverland”, U-KISS has yet to win #1 on a music show. It’s absurd, crazy, even mindboggling. How is it that they have yet to win #1? Each member brings his own unique talents and skills to the table. Combined, they are one of the more talented groups out there. They have improved and matured with each new song. They are willing to change in order to improve and become better than they have ever been before. They are not without their struggles - both Kibum and Xander left (were dropped from?) the group and two new members, AJ and Hoon, replaced the former two. And this was right before ‘0330′ came out. It’s not easy adjusting to new members when you’re so used to working with your former members. But they overcame that mountain. I really thought that U-KISS would’ve at least won 1 award on any of the music shows with their new song, “Neverland”. That song is amazing. I might not be a diehard KISS-ME (I like their music), but still, I’m astounded that they still haven’t won for ‘Neverland’. I thought maybe this past week was their week. But it wasn’t. Instead, we saw KARA take home two wins and Davichi one. (Yes, I was surprised that KARA won, considering that this was their comeback week on shows and that typically, groups don’t win awards during their first week of comeback.) And yes, I understand producer Ryan Jhun’s frustrations. I understand why he tweeted his feelings as such. I do like KARA’s ‘Step’, but U-KISS’ ‘Neverland’ is better because it’s something new that we haven’t seen much from the group. (Though I certainly don’t condone how he carried himself and leader Soohyun ended up apologizing for something that wasn’t his fault. Now how can you not love such a leader like that?) I’m not entirely sure why U-KISS doesn’t have a strong Korean fanbase. It’s the one place that counts the most for the boys and it’s the one place they really want love from. But now, I do believe that their Korean fanbase is growing, #1 will happen. I just hope it happens soon because guess what? They deserve it. With all the hard work they poured in, to continuously train, to strive for that dream. KPOP gods, please allow these young men to achieve what they have been dreaming for 3 years.
