Why SNSD Changed Their Music Style
SNSD has been taking the world by storm with their newly released third album “The Boys“. Although many netizens are wondering about the change occurring in their format of the title track itself. Many people are trying to figure out the reason why SNSD would change their style so drastically for the release of this album. It’s safe to say that fans worldwide are having a blast with it’s release, although many still wonder why.
I believe it’s due to the fact people have already lumped SNSD in a category of what their music should sound like. This happens with every artist when they establish a style and stick to it. SNSD is known for upbeat poppy songs that appeal to more female. People are complaining that their new music is “too fast paced” and “all over the place” I strongly feel that artists should be allowed to dabble in any genre to test the waters, if it is well received more power too them.
Just like me, SM Entertainment pointed out that the reason for the new sound on “The Boys” title track was to establish a “Turning point” for the girls. I believe it was so they could get their foot out of the cutesy door and into the more, dare I say grownup or techno ish styled songs that are more popular in Western world. Also stating, like I figured, that they wanted to change their style since the release was going out worldwide. They did not want SNSD to be presented as they had in Korea to make them more appealing around the world. Although SNSD charmed me right away through the style they had always used before, they were seeking to target a wider audience obviously. They have never lost that charm, charisma or flare that made me a Sone in the first place, I believe they never will.
“In the meaning that this album is being released at the same time throughout the world, it has the meaning of opening a new act to SNSD. Although it is a new track originating from Korea, it is not an exclusive new song for Korea. At this point, we also didn’t want to settle for the music following the typical formula for success and wanted to make a new venture.” Someone from the Entertainment branch enlightened fans. He also added, “To graduate from hook songs doesn’t mean that hook songs aren’t bad, but it means that we won’t be satisfied with it. It also holds the resolve of SNSD, who wants to newly ‘pioneer’ something new worldwide.”
Since they are in fact Korea’s biggest female act, of course they wanted to use their biggest weapon out in the worldwide market. You use your strengths and go with what people prefer, and what the majority prefers. An Idol group associate came forward stating, “K-Pop is sometimes easily spread out to international netizens with its easy, addicting choruses, but it’s interesting to see how SNSD left out the signature K-Pop hook. I speculate that it wasn’t an easy choice to go on this new exploration.”
They ended their statements with, “We don’t think that K-Pop became a hit solely due to its choruses. SNSD’s ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ and ‘Run Devil Run,” which attracted a lot of popularity throughout the whole world, were also not hook songs. Of course, ‘The Boys’ is a big gamble and adventure, but the will of Lee Soo Man producer and SM Entertainment to pioneer new frontiers played out very strongly in this decision.”
I liked the song, I love all their songs. I believe the girls and management should do what they feel would be best in the market today. If you want to be successful you adapt and that is just what they are doing now. So far the strategy has worked and I believe it will only get better once the girls finally start promotions on this album. Those pesky netizens are always unhappy, is it just me or did you notice this too?
