Avex Entertainment Announces the Cancellation of GD&TOP’s Japanese Single
In the past couple of days, news about G-Dragon’s marijuana case surfaced and spread worldwide. Because of the incident, Avex and YG Entertainment have decided to cancel the release of GD&TOP’s Japanese single, “Oh Yeah (featuring Bom of 2NE1)”.
On October 6th, the following notice was posted on the Avex Entertainment website regarding the release of GD&TOP’s single:
Translation:
“BIG BANG member, G-Dragon was investigated by the prosecutor’s office in Seoul (South Korea) due to suspicions of smoking marijuana last May. The result of the drug test came out positive, but there were not any legal penalties because only the hair test was positive.
After Avex heard the announcement, Avex and YG Entertainment began discussions. Even though G-Dragon received a suspension of indictment, the news will influence (how he will be viewed by) Japanese society. Because of this, Avex has accepted the fact sincerely and has decided to cancel the release of GD&TOP’s Japanese single, Oh Yeah (feat Bom of 2NE1) on November 9th, even if the incident happened before they had a contract with Avex.
We apologize to everyone and to all of the fans for this incident. We will try our best so that something like this will not happen ever again.
Avex Entertainment Oct 6th 2011″
For those of you that are not familiar with what has happened in Japan, a popular Japanese celebrity was recently jailed because of drugs and anyone who is reported with anything drug-related is typically not viewed in a good light.
Even though I understand where Avex is coming from though, it still sucks. Hopefully once all of this blows over, GD&TOP will be able to release a single in Japan.
