Which KPOP Idol would you want as a sibling?
What’s a Kim Kardashian without Kourtney or Khloe? Mary-Kate without Ashley Olsen? A Joe Jonas without Nick and Kevin? And vice-versa? I’m sure you get the point that celebrity siblings need each other and family values are a big deal both in mainstream and KPOP. We recently asked our writers, “Which KPOP Idol would you want as a sibling?” Here’s what some of them had to say:
Jade Verdeflor: The KPOP family is full of idols that would make amazing siblings, but my first choice would be Dara of 2NE1. Being the eldest of 4 siblings, I’ve had my share of being an unni/noona, but what I’ve always wanted is to have an unni. Now, Dara would be an awesome one for many reasons. First off, we can already see what a good sister she is to her idol sibling, MBLAQ’s Thunder. Through their cute sibling selcas and little me2day updates, we see what a cute relationship the two have. Also, with her as a sister, you would have great connections with all the awesome idols she knows. You’d pretty much be part of the awesome YG family. As a bonus, to me at least, she was raised in the Philippines and lived there for quite some time. Being Filipino-American myself, I’ve always wanted to learn more about Filipino language and culture, and Dara would be an awesome teacher and sister. Dara would definitely make an awesome KPOP sibling.
Lisa Lui: Since I am older than a number of the groups and idols that I follow, I would want Taecyeon from 2PM as my dongsaeng. I think Taecyeon would make a great dongsaeng because he always has a smile on his face and would be able to cheer me up when I am down. He also has a great sense of humor, seeing as he seems to joke around a lot. For example, on 2PM Show, you often see him teasing one of the other members and he seems to be able to take the teasing as well. I tend to tease my brothers too and they tease right back, so I think Taecyeon and I would do well as noona and dongsaeng. Also, Taecyeon seems to have a protective side too and I think that no matter what, if we were fighting or a great distance away from each other, he would always be there looking out for his noona. Plus, I would probably get to meet 2PM if he was my dongsaeng and maybe Nichkhun and I could date! (Just kidding.)
Susie Chong: If I could choose any K-Pop idol as a sibling, I would choose f(x)’s gorgeous leader Victoria Song. Having always been the older sibling of a younger brother, I’ve always wanted to know what it feels like to have an older sibling of my own and naturally, a sister who I could share all my female secrets with. Who could be more perfect than Victoria? She’s the prime example of a fun, sassy and outgoing personality who would be an absolute laugh to be with for hours on end. Judging by f(x) Koala, Victoria seems like a girl who’s always up for frolics- her English is so funny but cute at the same time! Aside from the fun, Victoria is not only beautiful but also elegant (maybe she could teacher me a thing or two about her amazing flexibility too!) as well as charming, the perfect role model! After all, who wouldn’t want a sister who knew all about 2PM’s cutie Nickhun?
Jenny Huy: If I could choose which idol I want as a sibling I would choose Kim Jong Woon, often referred as Yesung. Known for his beautiful artistic voice, he has a very responsible, caring, talkative, hilarious, and unique personality. Although I do not know Yesung personally, I have learned many stories about him. As a responsible father, he loves and cares of his three turtles; he often takes them with him to schedules. Being a caring son, he bought a coffee shop for his parents and promotes it himself. You will never be bored with Yesung who talks a lot; he once talked for two hours straight in a variety show but was cut off for obvious reasons. Yesung is also always entertaining people, especially with his wild dancing. Many people call him ordinary, but to me he is unique in all kinds of levels. I would not have to worry with a responsible and caring brother; I would never get bored with his weirdness and constant jokes. If he was my brother, my life would never be the same again.
Jessica Ng: Which KPOP idol would I want to have as a sibling? Sure, I could just pick a bias or someone extremely good-looking, but I also had to consider personality and age as factors to pick my number one. Who would I have the best time hanging out with and be comfortable living under the same roof with? B1A4’s main vocalist Sandeul (real name Lee Jung Hwan) popped into my mind as the top candidate. Our birth dates are one month apart, so age gap wouldn’t be a problem or cause awkwardness. Watching him appear on idol variety shows (ie: MTV Match Up or Star King), a genuine and fun-loving guy who likes bringing smiles to everyone’s faces, makes me admire his qualities and want to be more like him in character. Plus, Sandeul’s contagious tendency to act cute, random and hyper anywhere would mesh perfectly with my own habits! Metaphorically speaking, we could probably bring down buildings and break cars with our crazy antics added together. As the slightly older sibling, I think I would be responsible for controlling our hyper meter. Lastly, when Sandeul sings, he puts all of his heart’s emotions into his voice; I would love it if he gave me tips on how to strengthen my own vocals. All in all, having Sandeul as a brother would be like a Baro and Sandeul friendship, full of excitement and sprout dance moments!
And now you all have the floor - do you agree or disagree with the round table?
