G-Dragon Won’t Be Blacklisted From Aired Appearances
Big Bang’s G-Dragon has made various headlines very recently after he was tested positive for using marijuana. Considering how other idols have been blacklisted for several scandals, netizens have been wondering whether G-Dragon will also be banned from appearing on the nation’s public broadcasting channels, KBS, MBC, and SBS.
Luckily for all his faithful fans, KBS, MBC, and SBS officially announced that “appearance sanctions [against G-Dragon] will not be made.”
For starters, KBS and MBC confirmed that they no restrictions will be imposed on G-Dragon. A representative of KBS said, “Kwon Ji Yong’s indictment is currently suspended and thus he is not standing before the law. Consequently, imposing a restriction would be difficult.”
MBC too announced, “We could talk about appearance restrictions, but opening a whole conference is not yet decided. We would usually have a meeting if it were civil or criminal cases, but when a case’s indictment is suspended, we typically will not open one.”
Lastly, SBS released similar announcements to KBS and MBC, explaining that the chances of restricting G-Dragon’s TV appearance are very low.
Usually, an official conclusion for whether a celebrity is removed or not from a broadcast appearance is made after each of the broadcasting stations gather for a meeting with the Performers’ Regulation Commission.
Altogether, as many as 12 idols have been blacklisted by MBC and KBS after a drug-related scandal. Names include Oh Kwang Rok, Yoon Sul Hee, Jun In Kwon, Ju Ji Hoon, and Crown J.
